A week or so I posted a little micro blog on my DailyBooth account. Just a quick little blurb about how a friend let me take the blame for something he did and how he has kept silent for years. To this day I pay a heavy price for my friends actions and his silence. I asked a mutual friend Kristoffer Shideman of ink-cartel.com …Prints to help me express the anger, frustration and feeling of betrayal in an abstract work of art which I plan hang in my house. We sat down and discussed the projects goals and concept. I told Kris that I had no desire to create a “Hate” piece or something that passes judgment.
To Kris’s credit he jumped in more than enthusiastically to the project. To be honest I was a little surprised. You see our mutual friend has a habit of distancing himself from anyone who becomes a little to buddy-buddy with me. Despite the risk of alienating a close friend Kris has completely emersed himself into the project. Kris had a front row seat to the unraveling of the friendship and he knows all the stories that go along with it. Yet Kris did not blow me off but sat down with me and listened to me retell the events over and over again. Keep in mind Kris is still close to our mutual friend and in fact hangs out with him regularly. Kris has not judged one way or another but instead shown me nothing but empathy and understanding.
As I said before my goal was not to create a hate piece but rather express the explosion of anger and hate between to people. I wanted to depict the dichotomy between two people that led to the destruction of their friendship. Kris and I agreed that the piece should not be a literal telling of the story, as he pointed out I do not have enough wall space to create a fresco type telling of my story. We agreed the best approach would be to create an abstract piece of art where the viewer will get the sense of an explosion, turmoil and conflict subsiding into hope and forgiveness. The challenge is to subtly weave into the piece abstract elements of the story where anyone familiar with the circumstances will, if they are clever, be able to pick out the greater theme of the piece. Kris has laid down the base and while working on the second layer of the piece consciously or subconsciously stumbled upon the evil puppet master who in essence is behind all the turmoil.

A work in Progress. Below are some pictures of the first layers of the project. As Kris completes more layers I will post additional pictures. I hope you enjoy.
